I was right, again. in A small but passable life.

I’m usually right. Well, I’m right a lot of the time. This may come from the fact that I have time to sit and think through things a fair bit.
Yesterday we went and looked at the scooter. Mom test drove it. I test drove it. It was a basic three wheeled scooter like Dad’s was only with a few more bells and whistles. Mom wrote a check for $400. I drove the car home after loading up the two extra batteries. Mom took off to drive her new scooter home.
I’m in the driveway waiting. Mom turns the corner to pull in the carport. And tips the thing over. Yeah. An eighty year old woman tangled up in a scooter laying in the street.
After I extricated her and helped her up making sure I was cussing the correct amount, and making sure she wasn’t bleeding, I helped her into the house and then drove the scooter to its parking space and plugged it in.
I made two forceful statements and then said I’m not saying another word. The two statements- “I’m going to have to buy you one of those red helmets for retards so you don’t crack your skull open. And I’ll put a flashing yellow light on top to warn people you’re approaching.” And- “The first time I get a call from somebody saying I need to come and pick you up out of the street, that’s the end of the scooter.”
So yeah. I don’t see the purchase helping out anyone for any reason. At least she can’t maim or kill anyone else by driving it. And if she ends up looking like a fool lying in the street with it on top of her, so be it.
I called my sis-in-law to tell her what the upcoming $400 deduction in the bank account was for and to tell her the story. At least we can laugh about it. And she said that “Yes, being right all the time must be genetic because (my little brother) is never fucking wrong about anything!” And she also said that being stubborn must have been inherited from both our parents. Well said, well said.
I spent the afternoon napping and listening to NPR, as usual. After a dinner of chicken nuggets and cottage cheese I dropped Mom off and went over to plant flowers and check on the herb garden I’d planted.
I got the flowers planted in less than an hour. The herb garden is growing nicely.
I save my shows to watch all together on Friday evening. Currently watching: Grey’s Anatomy, This Is Us, and You’re The Worst.
Anyway, I’ve rambled enough.
