broke as a joke in poetry

If it ain’t broke, maybe it is actually broke and
its trying to distract from its brokenness with
folksy-ass words like “ain’t”.

If it ain’t broke, maybe its just that
its investments aren’t liquid and they’re just cash poor
or maybe its got money
but the loan shark is calling and
it’s not enough to pay him off.

If it ain’t broke, maybe it’s not even built yet
maybe you just think that it isn’t broken
because you don’t know what it’s actually made for
maybe you have no idea the power of its final form.

If it ain’t broke, maybe it considers itself broken
maybe it isn’t able to do what it wants to do
maybe it isn’t able to do what it needs to do
maybe it isn’t able to do what it believes it can do
maybe being able to do the thing you were intended to
isn’t nearly enough
humans were made to collect fruit and make more humans
but we’re considered broken if we can’t
drive a car hold a job pay a bill
deal with the stress of the end of the world
are we really broken if we can’t do all that
if we still could reasonably forage and fuck given the chance?

If it ain’t broke, maybe it still feels broke
maybe you should listen to its feelings
maybe your definition of brokenness
aren’t the shackles on everyone’s heart
maybe some of us break a lot more easy
maybe some of us break a lot more hard
maybe we’re hiding our brokenness
beneath one thin coat of fresh paint
maybe we’re hiding our brokenness
behind folky-ass words like ain’t.
