as if in poetry

The idea that if we just sat down and
made friends with Nazi Germany they’d’ve stopped
is as ridiculous as staying that with the KKK.
Or the Proud Boys or any other little boys of the Alt-Reich.
Guys, if we’d have just complimented Genghis Khan on his fedora
he would’ve horsebacked right on home!
Ladies, if you had just dated Mussolini
when he tried his pick-up artist tricks on you
he would’ve let North Africa alone!
If you had just given your heads on pikes to Vlad Tepes,
he wouldn’t have had to put in the work of chopping them off!
If you had just blamed the victims
if you had just applauded the monsters
that’s what they’ll tell you and
here’s the worst part of it:
it’s not even because they agree with the monsters
in theory they probably hate what the monsters want in the long run
almost as much as you hate what the monsters want in the long run
it’s just that they can’t let themselves think about the long run
it’s that they want everything status quo in the short run
because status quo in the short run means they make money in the short run
making money in the short run is all they can think about
so they shake hands with Hitler in the short run
so they compliment Genghis Khan’s shitty fedora in the short run
so that they can keep selling stuff right now
that’s the only idea they can keep in their heads.
Hell, if we could get those people to not only think in the short run
we’d have the bastard beaten in a week and a half with those mobilized
but I don’t know how to wake the short-term thinkers up.
If we could just do that.
As if.
