The Eye of the Storm (not really) in 2017

For those who don’t know, I’m one of the ones hunkered down in the path of Irma. I currently live on the west edge of Orlando, not far from the tourist capital of the world, aka Land of the Mouse. The eye of Irma is going to go up the west coast of Florida, which isn’t really all that far given that Florida is less than 200 miles across. So far, just heavy, low hanging clouds and a lot of steady (but not too heavy) rain for the past four hours or so. We’re supposed to get the worst of it here this evening into night.

I had grand ambitions of doing a sort of running hurricane blog, but I’m honestly just too damn tired. I work in a grocery store (stock crew), and worked somewhere north of 60 hours in the past five days....and we are expecting to reopen for the community first thing Tuesday, or even Monday afternoon if the storm lets up enough. We have a lot of people here who’ve evacuated from Miami, Lauderdale, and the Tampa area who didn’t have time to get much in the way of supplies. As Publix’s home area is right here in central Florida, the company takes its ties to the communities seriously.

So, I’m fixing some food (power is still obviously fine here), and then probably back to bed for some more sleep before the worst of the storm hits. The biggest anxiety for me is simply not really knowing what to expect. This is my first hurricane, and I seem to have picked a doozy.
