I think I’ll keep an eye on my patch until it has evaporates, it was quite a surprise to get in at this time of day, 10pm UK time, recently I could never get on; I suppose it was the time east coast America was getting up and getting on Open Diary! Now many have said their good byes, there entries all saved and archived to be read one day, or left to vanish when the plug is pulled, or a mouse covering a wipe command.

But I doubt it will be an end for many years, people meeting on line, or even face to face, and they chat as we do, ‘what you had a diary there’ and now and then someone will say ‘isn’t it a small world’ No as long as we live we shall remember, it will be the people we shall meet on the site that drive the memory. During my ten years here I said good-bye to Terry, a friend I had shared an office with for near twenty years, cancer took him just six months before he would have retired.

Then Par-in-law in December 2007 at ninety-nine, then Dad in September 2010, he was eighty eight and said of life ‘No one can take what I’ve had’ and then in his last year he added ‘and I’ve had a lot’ The following year we lost Daisy, she was a seven year old Breaded Collie, cancer. And some know to me and many others here, July or as I learned in her last months Ruby, I think it was Ruby who got me staying on Open Diary, she was my first regular noter; gone but never forgotten.

I could feel sad at this as these days pass, but the last ten years have been a positive experience, a meeting with people round the world; and in life it is people who matter – and we will carry on.
