So when I watch tv or movies, I don’t do any kind of analysis.

But then I started watching Insecure.
Over the past few episodes, I’ve been wondering about where the writers heads are.

Episode before this latest: Woman found out that her father cheated on her mother ages ago. Now she feels like their relationship is fake and a scam and bullshit. Now she’s not speaking to her mother and she’s mad at her father. She put her parents relationship on a pedestal not knowing there was some drama.

My thing: Not to be old school and say that’s how men were and are back then and a few of them now, it is what it is. They step out on their wives and their wives stay. To say that’s how it’s always been and that’s how it should be is personal preference. But think of it like this. Those marriages that last 30-50+ years, trust there have been some issues and it comes down to what you are willing to forgive. And to go back further, these women were homemakers. Some of them didn’t have the mind set that he cheated on me, I’m leaving, I’m taking the kids, etc. In many cases, where were they going to go?? How would/could they work? How will they be taken care of? You get the picture. Again, never condoning the men’s behavior, but this is how it was. The men had to double down on being good to their wives to keep the pitchfork carrying villagers at bay. I’m just saying. Women deal with a lot from men and if we stick around then we have our reasons I suppose. No one is perfect.

Now for this last episode:
Lead character was giving this dude a blowjob and when he came, it shot in her eye and she had a fit. It was an unnecessary fit. SHE was in control of that. She could have taken it in her mouth to spit later or swallow or she should have laughed that shit off like ain’t that a bitch. But she freaked out, asked how could he do that to her and she didn’t ask for this, and then got mad when he said to her, “I didn’t ask you to suck my dick.” And he didn’t. Before that, the ladies were having a conversation about blowjobs/giving head (insert your preferred term here) and it was like a regressive step in time. I’m sorry, but black women give head. Personally I’ve done it well, but I don’t know what I’m doing since I ain’t seen a dick in real life in a couple of years now soo....Yeah. That skill has been unused and is suspect as hell right now.

At any rate, the chatter online was along the lines of it was a scene straight out of 1996 or so. Which is true. Compared to the recent movie Girls Trip (which was HILARIOUS) where the whole “grapefruiting” thing was brought to light (my favorite was “You need to use your lady mouth” with a oral gesture-lmao) that episode was HELLA regressive as to black women’s attitudes regarding oral sex.

Both episodes made me think surely there aren’t people in this world that still are not knowledgeable about basic shit, are there?

When I found out that my grandfather’s mistress was a friend of the family that was still hanging around up until he died, I was floored but never thought about how could he? How could she (my grandmother) stay? None of that. AND they were still friends with the husband. The mistress and her husband actually divorced but he was still friends with the family. She was a drunk and was drunk most of the time when I was growing up. I saw pictures of her when they were all young and she was a hot thang. My grandmother was curvy. Small waist and a big ol’ booty and hips. She was tight. Ms. V was the thin Hollywood type with a blond wig. Seductress, smoker, all that stereotypical shit. But they loved it. My grandparents were married for 50+ years before he died.

Dah well…

Just food for thought.

Have a great day.

Kindest regards,
Sister
