"Polite, but stupid." in A small but passable life.

I quoted the saying wrong in yesterday’s entry. The proper quote from the NPR story is- “Be polite, but stupid.” And I haven’t been able to find the story to confirm it but I’ll keep looking. I know it was on one of the afternoon shows.
When the frig was ordered back in the appliance department I was told delivery was to be this afternoon. When I went up front to pay for it the cashier looked again for me and said this afternoon.
So, I get up this morning at a little before 8am and Mom has the frig mostly emptied out and piled on the counter and in front of the coffee maker. Whatever.
I put on my pot of coffee shoving crap out of the way to make space on the counter, and I put together a peach cobbler using some fresh peaches and Bisquick I’d bought last week.
I then went on with my day. Coffee and reading in the morning. Listening to NPR in the afternoon.
The new frig never arrived today. I couldn’t figure out the website to double check the delivery schedule. No clue what’s going on. Don’t really care. It’ll get here when it gets here. It’ll give me an excuse to sit right here and wait.
At 6pm I sent Mom to play Rummikub without me, saying I’d stay here in case the frig arrived.
It’s 8:06pm and the frig hasn’t arrived.
Everything is still piled on the counter and in the Styrofoam cooler we got the Omaha Steaks shipment in. I told Mom yesterday we didn’t need to empty the frig until we get the call a half hour before they’re due to arrive. Like they did the stove delivery. But no, she had to empty the frig thirteen hours ago. Because I’m the dumbass.
I didn’t say a word. I won’t say a word. Polite, but stupid. Yep, I’m the stupid one. Always.
