Nothing earthshattering; I just needed a title, but I’m excited!
In Professional news When I got in my car today to drive to work what was on the radio but “Dance with Me”? It’s a sign, I tell ya, a sign - which, seriously, I do believe in. I’ve been doubtful about going to the upcoming event because I struggled just getting to ours, but I decided to go; I have to know myself and accommodate where I am at the moment. Ours is a four - night activity, and I went every night and stayed until the wee hours. This time I don’t have to be there every night or for that long and can spend the night when I do go.
U2 update Scheduled my flight today and talked to the shuttle company that’ll pick me up. I’m going to see U2!!! It’s really happening!!! I expect to be much better - getting stronger every day! - but I have a ticket for a seat rather than the floor so I can sit if needed and a hotel right next door so I don’t have to worry about parking and walking long distances. I also still have about a month and a half before the concert - maybe by then I’ll be able to annoy people around me when I don’t sit and when I sing and dance (neither of which I have a talent for). Oh, what am I saying? They’ll be doing the same thing!
Being the Boss I had to be a director the other day, and I don’t like it when I have to do that. I prefer to be the lone wolf, left to myself, rather than tending to staff needs and having to think of them as staff.
I hoped the Wunderkind could learn my job and take over for me when one day I retire, but I’ve said before that now I don’t feel I can retire or die. She has the millennial attitude that nothing existed before her (and I know not all of a certain age are like that and that the attitude varies in degrees) so all the “old” stuff has to be swept away - when we’re in the business of preserving old stuff!
Anyway, a meeting at a site near and dear to my heart and for which I’m very protective is coming up. She accompanied me to the last meeting I went to but didn’t pay attention (checking Facebook during the meeting), left our meeting to participate in a teleconference held weekly (meaning that the site that paid for our being there had to accommodate her), and even stated that the area, full of our history, “did nothing” for her, although none of that stopped her from commenting about something she hadn’t known anything about, using someone else’s words expressed in that same meeting earlier that day. I hadn’t intended that she’s to travel with me everywhere I go because her job does take a lot of time and I’m not going anywhere for over a decade, but she seems to think she is and also told her assistant that she’s going as well!
The Wunderkind goes to learn, but there’s no reason for the assistant to accompany us. The Wunderkind’s argument is that Assistant needs “to get a feel” for these places - well, I’d like to “get a feel” for the ocean on a regular basis and could probably make an argument for that that isn’t as flimsy as just “get(ting) a feel”. I understand planning other things when we travel; I do that, too, but they never talk about the work that makes travel possible. They seem more concerned about taking selfies to post on Facebook and where they’re going next, choosing workshops or conferences based on whether they’ve been there.
So I had to tell her there’s no reason for the Assistant to go (and had to repeat that) and also inform her that at this time she’s not going either. I’m not banning them from travel although I think that needs to be curtailed; I’m not even banning them from going to meetings at the site, just not this year. I think they need to mature first, and there’s time for that; besides, as I said, there’s just no reason for the assistant’s presence. When I’m gone and if they’re both still here the Wunderkind will need her to learn, but right now I am here and she seems to forget that I’m the director - and I hate reminding her.
This is really not a big deal but I needed to nip it in the bud.
Now I feel like a big meanie.
