And July... in Ponderings of the Universe

OK, seriously, how has a month gone by so quickly?
My grandfather passed away on the 3rd. The funeral was the following week and involved surprisingly little drama, which was quite unexpected. The priest was an army chaplain and was absolutely perfect. He actually read my grandfather’s book and it really personalized the service more so than the average funeral.
(Speaking of my grandfather’s book, I highly recommend giving it a read. One of his favorite things to do when he was well was to talk about his book and try to encourage people to buy a copy, so I feel I’m serving his memory well by doing so myself :) Here’s an Amazon link: Shavetail)
A couple weekends ago, Aaron, Genevieve, Eric, Amber and I had a really fun, silly day. We went to Franconia Sculpture Park, which was delightful (and free!). We also did a riverboat tour at Taylors Falls and ate at a delicious restaurant that specialized in local fare.
Had another CT scan 2 weeks ago. My appointment with my oncologist had to be rescheduled. I usually try to have them a day apart so I’m not waiting too long for results because anxiety. So, I wasn’t pleased to have to reschedule because I take days off of work for it, which can be challenging. I have my appt this week. Luckily, they were able to give my results over the phone, and it looked clean, so yay!! There is, of course, the tiny voice in the back of my mind that’s telling me they gave the wrong results resulting in unnecessary anxiety. Bleh.
Adding to the anxiety, Gracie had a dental on Friday and had some teeth extracted. She did well the first night but yesterday she was regurgitating so much and seemed uncomfortable. She has such a sensitive little tummy and can’t tolerate NSAIDs, so I’m using an opioid, but I don’t think it’s helping that much. Then, she couldn’t keep oral meds down, so I ran to work a few times for various injectables for pain and nausea. Not sure how much value that’s been either. I hate feeling helpless like this. I just want her to feel better. I feel guilty for having pushed for the dental, but she really did need it. I just wish I could control her discomfort in her mouth and GI tract better. Depending upon how she does today, I may have to take her in and give her some SQ fluids to rehydrate her. I hate being the “adult” when it comes to my own pets. I’m too emotionally invested, my mind goes to the worst conclusion possible, and I have a hard time making objective decisions.
Things to look forward to in August: I’m going to see Shakey Graves in concert!
Love that he can pull off the whole one man band thing. Also, dat voice…
I’ve heard he’s phenomenal in concernt, so quite excited!
Also, I have a week off at the end of the month for....THE STATE FAIR! WHEEEEEEE!!!! Need to find me a new image hosting site so I can upload some pics of food for you :P
