Monsoon. in A small but passable life.

I’ve finished reading the nearly 900 page novel “4321” by Paul Auster. It had taken me nearly a month. I’d taken a two-day break in the middle of it to read Noam Chomsky’s “Requiem for the American Dream”. I’d seen the movie online but it was nice to read the words.
It has rained a bit during this monsoon but not much until yesterday. It had started raining before sunrise and before the storm had passed it had dumped 3.27 inches of rain right here on our little spot in the Valley.
Mom’s new frig and stove are ordered, bought and paid for and scheduled for delivery. We sold her golf cart for $1500. She had bought it about 2 ½ years ago for $1700 so that was pretty good. The new appliances were a little over $1200. The new appliances aren’t needed, just wanted. You know, like the $5000 new porch. Whatever.
Daughter and her boyfriend (fiancé now?) will be out of their house on the last day of this month. They haven’t got the van ready to move into but they do have a storage unit and a P.O. Box now. They’ll be rooming with friends until they have the van built.
I’m rather sad that I’ll never see that attic room again. I really liked it up there. I’m glad I got that last 360 days of uninterrupted occupancy before I had to come back out here.
So, I once again have some, most of my belongings in a storage unit. Which I swore would never happen again. When my brother and sis-in-law come out this Fall they may be able to bring most if not all of it with them.
And speaking of them. My brother called Mom last week. They were in Central Park in NYC just walking around. They had moved the motorhome from New Jersey where they were visiting their oldest daughter to a spot, I think, in the Bronx or Brooklyn. Somewhere where they could see the new Tower across the water on Manhattan. They plan on staying a month or so. He said the New Yorkers are some of the nicest, friendliest people he’d ever met and that most people in New Jersey are assholes and rude.
I’ve stopped watching the news and stopped reading online anything about politics. It is beyond stupidity now.
Twenty million people on the verge of starvation. Millions more on the move or already displaced. The U.S. government has been seized by a mentally deranged band of clowns.
And the “BIG NEWS” is O.J. Simpson’s parole hearing.
We. Are. Truly. Fucked.
