Allergies! Whoa Baby in Everyday Ramblings

The weather has been fabulous this week, easy to be out in and most hospitable. Well…except for the allergens. The other morning I was out on the track and after taking an antihistamine and some Sudafed my eyes were still literally dripping.
I am beginning to think that my inability to lose weight is tied up with an allergic response and inflammation. So Kes found me an article about that and it mentions a new book on allergies. I ordered that one and another one from the library.
I picked up one on Wednesday, The New Allergy Solution by Clifford Bassett M.D. I am not very far yet. He does say that the most important thing you can do to reduce seasonal allergy symptoms is to wear a hat.
Who knew?
He also talks specifically about the London Plane trees I wrote about a few weeks back in my deep dive into heritage trees. So we had this very sad outbreak of Dutch elm disease in the 60’s and 70’s and millions of street trees died so they planted a whole bunch of London Plane trees because they are hardy and deal well with pollution.
The problem is that to avoid trees dropping “stuff” that needs to be cleaned up they planted only male trees and they are…you guessed it…fabulous pollinators. Right now out there pollen literally covers the street in front of my place.
So like I tried last year I decided to see if I could forgo taking my antihistamine because you are not supposed to take them all year long to help with the weight gain thing. Yesterday was okay, a little sneezing and scratchy throat.
Today though, today I am a mess. I can’t remember ever sneezing so much in one day in my life! Clearly I am going to need to take an antihistamine before I teach tonight.
And finish reading the book as soon as I can.
I think it might be a double whammy with a food allergy mixed in with the seasonal ones.
And I think I need to see an allergist. One thing I find helpful about the book is that he makes clear that it is important to actually talk to a specialist if you are having symptoms that seriously affect your life. I am loathe to take on another medical adventure as I am still wrapping up having my mouth remodeled though.
There doesn’t seem to be consensus that this blood test, the IgG Food Allergy Antibody Assessment is really effective in the scientific community but it is a big deal in the alternative health community.
But best to do it before I retire. One of our sister medical institutions is initiating layoffs and I think we will be next.
I may have to wait on my new bike purchase. Even though I asked my tax preparer twice about local taxes for my yoga business and she said it was not an issue I got a very scary letter a few days ago saying I didn’t file and there will be penalties. Oh man.
I filed an after the fact extension this morning but ughh… that is what I will be doing tomorrow afternoon after I teach my little stress reduction workshop.
I had 7 people sign up but 2 have bailed since and 1 is coming half way through. My goal is to offer usable support to those few intrepid souls that can make it.
Think happy relaxed workshop goers my way will ya?
Thank you.
