…as a child, and since, I’ve always disliked fish. But, as a child I took a liking to smoked and jerkeyed Salmon.
I’ve had smoked salmon since, but today, the smoked salmon I broke into, from my fridge, smoked in Oregon City (a ways from the coast)…it made me remember. It made me feel the soft weight of the Pacific Ocean from my childhood. Of the salt water going into my mouth from being swept under by a current at a young age, fearing for my life. Of the sacrifice I almost was, as my parents looked on, far away, assuming their 4 year old was somehow safely playing.
It made me feel the cold, cold waters of her deft hand lapping at my feet. Of the day I layed my parents and paternal grandparents to rest in her soft swell, just a bit over a year ago.
Of her smell, her behemoth mouth, her entity.
Of me.
It reminds me of my eternal being.
It is Of me. I am OftheSea. I am the OftheOcean. I am.
Eternal.
Forever in a mouthful of smoke, fire, sugar, salt, water and Life.
I am.
