No How in The Stuff That's Not Interesting But Is The Most Interesting Stuff I'll Write

She said, “We don’t know now but it won’t hurt this bad forever.”

I replied coldly, “Yes, it will.”

“I know it feels like that now,” she answered,” but someday it will feel like less of a weight.”

“No it won’t.”

“You don’t know…“

“Yes, I do.”

How can I explain to her that I’ve been through this grief before. How can I explain that I lost the man that was practically my husband long before you even knew anything about me. How can I explain that I know what it’s like when there is a chunk of your heart that has been ripped from you.

Those aren’t questions, those are statements. How, indeed.

She’ll never know what I feel because she will never know the breadth of my love for another. She’ll just speculate that I’ll get over it because I don’t love anyone, not even myself.
