Got home about 11:30 last night, it was a long day and we came home to rainy, yucky weather.
As usual we had a great time. The mosquitoes and no see-ums were pretty bad this time as they had a lot of rain before we came which they needed but the insect problem was even a little much for them. Typically, we would sit out in the a.m. drinking coffee but some mornings, we just couldn’t do it.
The woman we rent from, kelcina, has become our friend----actually from the first time we met her, we just really clicked. She did a lot of little extras for us but she is also just such a gracious host. Her husband, Oliver, is usually not on island when we visit, as he is Canadian and they have a home there and usually we just miss him coming down. In fact, we teased kelcina that Oliver was not even real, he was someone she made up. Surprise, surprise he was there this time, altho we kept teasing that he was someone she hired. He is just as nice as kelcina and he is considered our friend now as well. They are at a crossroads in their lives in that they should both be on island more especially as their kids are pretty well launched. They have a daughter who wants to stay in Toronto, I think she is 25. Their son is 21 and had a promising baseball career until an opposing pitcher beaned him on purpose and pretty much ended his career. He is now planning on coming to Barbuda and working with his parents.
Kelcina’s dad, uncle roddy, had a beach bar next to the cottages. He would cook for the guests, simple grilled fare and usually just dinners. Roddy is getting up in years and kelcina and Oliver thought adding a lunch menu would bring better business as a lot of times people would come down to the beach, wander over to get a bite to eat or a cold drink but roddy wasn’t open. Anyway, kel and Oliver are leasing the bar from roddy and brought in a chef. OMG! He made some amazing dishes, tasty and different but I will tell you all about our meals another day as this is getting a bit long.
