we put god in your god in poetry

The idea that I may just be
a splinter of the universe
exploring itself for a little while
before it rejoins the whole again
doesn’t make the day-to-day any easier
even if it turns out to be true.

“We are the same ocean becoming drops
someday we will be again becoming
parts of the same ocean!” doesn’t
give the debt collectors any pause
doesn’t make the panic attacks stop.
Doesn’t shake the bigots or the cops.

When life is punching you in the mouth
when hate riots start to crop up from the south
you can’t just hit the right button combination
and defeat them with a
SPIRITUALITY.

If we are little flecks of God
lost in a maze of our own devising
I mean, for now, we’re still lost
it doesn’t make me feel
any the more enterprising
whatever I will be or was
right now I’m just exposed candy floss
and the storm clouds are threatening rain.
Cold comfort doesn’t proffer much gain
right now.
