Duality in My Poetry Slams

I will awake someday (tomorrow?)
Shake off the dreams (nightmares)
Open my eyes (eyes wide shut)
Sit up on this bed (stay down, it’s easier)
And praise the new day (begrudge the rut I’m in)
Whistle my way through (pursed lips to kiss the dread)
Shoulders back, head up (look at my fake strut)
Watch the hands (See the magic I can’t make)
Hear my voice (born of anguish, steeped in sadness)
See that sparkle in my eye (Maybe it’s just the light)
Befriend me (betray me)
Sun shining outside (raining on the inside)
Getting house (because this is not a home)
Put on my pajamas (ready for the darkness?)
Say goodnight (just to be ironic)
Do it all again (and again)
