I have a friend I go to the movies with. We've been friends for about 10 years, and since he is Orthodox, we eat at restaurants that are either Kosher or Vegan. There are three near the movie theaters we go to that had choices we liked: One: Soom-Soom has a great salad bar (you can pile on as much as you like) and sandwiches - my favorite is sabich - into a pita bread go slices of fried eggplant, hummus, and hard-boiled egg. Even though this place has two sandwiches for the price of one on Mondays, the quality of the food has gone downhill lately and we probably won't be returning. Another restaurant, Maoz, has very similar cuisine, but the added incentive is a wonderful cauliflower broccoli mix as part of the salad bar. Since for some reason this restaurant does NOT agree with my friend's digestion, we usually skip it. That brings us to Hummus Place. It's the only one of the three with waiter service... and comfortable seating. The menu is similar - they also have sabich, which I haven't been craving as much lately. Last night we both opted for the appetizer plate - we both LOVE cauliflower, I also had the beet salad and we both had the falafel. I took my bread home and used it for open faced grilled cheese sandwiches (breakfast the next morning). Granted this place is MORE expensive, but very satisfying.
