I won't forget to remember you in One day at a time

My boss (VT)’s mother has been sick for a while (she lives in a rest home). On Monday VT was told it wouldn’t be much longer. So I was very surprised to see her at work on Tuesday morning. At about 9.00am she got a call telling she needed to be there “now”. Male boss went to give her an awkward comforting pat on the arm and she kind of shrugged him off (they have been workmates and friends for over 30 years). As she was heading for the door she broke down, and quick as a flash Sticky jumped up and hugged her. They stood like that for about 30 seconds, with VT sobbing. Then VT pulled away, and looked a bit like someone who drank too much tequila and woke up with some weird stranger. She made it to her Mother’s bedside with about 20 minutes to spare. The funeral is tomorrow, but it has been made clear that Sticky and I are to stay and man the office. God forbid that someone wants to book a holiday during the hour we would be out to pay our respects.
I don’t want to be all doom and gloom, but Keith’s mother died this morning too. I guess I’m just getting to that age where our Parents are wearing out. I heard the news from Richard. (it’s confusing I know, but they are very good friends).
I sent Keith a text saying how sorry I was. Part of his reply was * “ Your visit’s and the piano times were some of her very favourite moments. Thank you so much for really making these last few years so memorable”* and that ladies and gentlemen is why I love that guy so much. I will do my very best to get to that funeral, as over the years his Mother made me promise several times that we would sing “Don’t forget to remember me” at her funeral. Awkwardness be damned I am going to honour that promise.
In other oddly related news, my Mother isn’t too good at the moment either, I will be making the 8 hour round trip at the weekend to visit her.
So apart from all that doom and gloom, life is ok. I have been walking and walking and walking. I did a 10km walk last weekend, so I am not feeling so stressed about doing it for reals on 19 March. Life is busy, so I have been finding the best way to get walking in is to get off the bus early and walk the rest of the way to work. It is alongside a really busy road, so that is a treat in itself. This morning two big cruise ships were docking, so I stopped and watched for a while. Oops, late for work. Oh well no VT here to glare at me!
