Holey socks. in A small but passable life.

I’m still sitting here. I finished reading “The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule” by Thomas Frank. He’s the guy who wrote “What’s the Matter With Kansas?” His predictions have come true in Kansas and now the predictions he’s made in this 2008 book are coming true for the country. Sadly.
I’ve got one more politically themed book on order and then I believe I’m done. Done. As the United States may be. Done.
It was 79 degrees Thursday. Very unusual. There are, so far, over two hundred all time record highs in the US surpassed this February.
It has cooled off, but not gotten normal February cold. And Monday the predicted high is back up in the sixties. Crazy.
I’ve been researching the Amazon Echo. Not for me. For Mom. I think she’d enjoy it after she got used to it. She wants to live alone and that would give her something (someone?) to talk to. I don’t think it makes regular calls, you know, like “Alexa call 911!” I don’t think the “phone” companies are ready to relinquish their monopoly on voice yet. I couldn’t find anything on Amazon about it. I’ll keep looking.
For me? “Alexa, talk dirty to me.” Maybe? Probably not.
I’ve been tossing old socks into the trash. I bought six pair of Hanes black cotton socks from Walmart sometime before the end of 2003. Now holes are appearing. When the hole gets bigger than a quarter I throw them away. I believe I’m down to seven socks now. Somewhere in my big black duffle bag should be several pair of black dress socks that I’ve received as gifts over the years (decades?) but have never worn. I guess I’ll have to dig them out. I still have my two pair of thick hiking socks.
If I end up back in the desert I’ll probably never wear socks again except for the short socks for the cross trainers when I go to the fitness room.
Just because I lie in bed from midnight to about 10am every night doesn’t mean I sleep for that whole time. Rarely. It is space out of time. Time in dreams. Dreams I rarely remember.
Anyway, I’ll keep gazing out the window here. Keep my eye out for anything out of the ordinary. Everything seems copacetic, so far.
