Metaphorical Winter and Signs of Spring in Everyday Ramblings

Things that make me happy today…

It is not raining!
The crocuses are finally starting to appear. (I took this yesterday noon.)

When I was waiting for the bus after the final concert of the festival on the idyllic Reed College campus a very interesting younger woman told me that on the bus on the way out their bus driver had mentioned seeing his first crocuses and all the rough tough tattooed skateboard dudes had chimed in and started babbling about seeing daffodil shoots and early signs of spring all over town.

I was able to renew “The Path of Modern Yoga” for another three weeks. It is a big book and too expensive to buy and I had had to turn it back in last month and wait for another copy to become available.

I have running water. They had it off all day yesterday because they are replacing the main on the corner.

Other than a dentist appointment for a cleaning and impressions for the two new crowns (fingers crossed he can do them today) this evening I get to chill after work. I am tired.

One of my students had a “cardiac event” a few days ago and was in just the right place with her family so that they were able to get her to the hospital directly and they were able to place a stent and she is out of the hospital and although tired is doing really well.

I have been worried about her lately. She has had this sort of neurological restlessness and balance issues that have showed up in class and other than making sure she is near a wall and watching her there hasn’t been much I can do.

I need to find out where the closest defib machine is. I knew at the church.

A friend, who I adore, but haven’t seen in ages suggested lunch sometime soon.

I was a bit, ummm, overwhelmed by public contact at the festival. Like…totally. So I am happy to only have one in office meeting today.

I did meet a young composer at the last concert as well and we had a wonderful serial conversation about contemporary music and poetry and art and exchanged emails and Facebook links before and during the breaks. She lives in Seattle.

My new big tube birdfeeder came yesterday. So far the chickadees have figured it out. I hope the finches come back. And it takes a little while for the squirrels to figure it out…

I do so like the statement floating around Facebook about liberal snowflakes and how a certain group of people might want to be wary because…in this context…winter is coming!

In the meantime though I am reveling in the early early signs of spring as the endless rain is coming back tonight.
