Dentist tomorrow and some unwelcome visitors in The View from the Terrace

I have my appointment with the dentist tomorrow to have the front tooth out. I am still feeling quite anxious, not so much about the actual extraction, I’ve done that before and it will be over in a short time, it’s the coming home and looking in the mirror at the gap in my smile, that will stay. She did say she would have a partial denture ready, but I’m worried about how I will get on with that. The only person I have to talk to about it is my hubby and he’s so laid back that losing an arm wouldn’t bother him that much so a tooth or two is insignificant! That’s probably not true, but you get the picture, he can’t understand why I am so worried.

I still haven’t decided what to do in the long term. I’ve been looking into cheaper ways to get an implant, apparently you can get them done for less than half the price in Eastern Europe and have a few days holiday while you are at it!

We have been getting on quite well with sorting out the house. We had an invasion of rats over Christmas, well 2 rats, one in the loft and one that kept getting into the living room at night. Although this was quite upsetting it did have it’s funny side as one night the rat ate all of the little chocolate gifts my younger son had bought for our festive season. I rather hoped that all of that chocolate might kill it for us! but no, it was back the next night, so Hubby had to move all of the clutter in the boxes next to the wall and even the piano. I can’t remember when the piano was last moved but I found things behind it that had been missing for years.

Eventually we found that Ratty had actually bored a hole through the wall in the corner behind a tall bookcase, doesn’t say much for the state of our walls. Since the bookcase is rather old and decrepit we bought a new one at the local auction and now Tony and Hubby are repairing the wall, not just the bit the rat bored but, because the plaster was crumbling in parts, they’ve decided to knock it all off and also repoint the wall. Actually I think the rat has done us a favour as I don’t know when I would have got them to do that if this hadn’t happened.

As for the other rat in the loft, Hubby inspected the whole of the boarding outside by the guttering and found a hole there, so the little blighter must have climbed up the drainpipe and along the guttering. We haven’t heard him for a while but have left a trap in the loft just in case. I don’t like leaving traps around the house because I worry about the cats and I won’t use poison for the same reason. I am still wondering how a household with 4 cats can have rats but 3 are rather old and the other one has lost the use of one eye and doesn’t seem to be able to catch anything any more. Perhaps I should use this as a excuse to get a Siamese cat. We had rats in the garden when I lived with Mum in my teens and were advised to get a Siamese cat. We did and only found dead rats after that.

On top of all of that I found woodworm in my bedside cabinet so I am busy clearing out the clutter in the bedroom so that I can get it out and treat it. I do hope this energy stays with me as I am beginning to feel I might even sort most of the house eventually. Hopefully if I do Hubby won’t fill it up again.
