It is no surprise that I find my current living situation intolerable. I have certainly suggested before that the community I currently live with is different than I am used to. In many ways; that is neither bad nor good… simply not a good fit for me. Isolation… no commerce… complete emptiness… that would certainly appeal to many people… and I do not judge them for that preference.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE CERTAIN THAT I HAVE TO LEAVE HERE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE THEN JUST NOW!

As I did not wish to watch another Bones Episode (I do like Bones but… seriously, hours and hours of dead decomposing bodies).... just jumping off of that for a moment.... Wife finally relented about Bones and turned on House. I let out an exasperated sigh and asked if we could watch something FUN! (For Christ’s sake, we used to be able to do that)… and instead Wife gets upset that I won’t let her watch what she wants. Because 8 hours of Bones wasn’t letting her watch what she wanted to watch?! Holy hell. My inner couch-psychologist is just processing this all over thinking ”Wife hasn’t even been doing her retail job much lately; she is starved for a feeling of intelligence but refuses to read. Which is also ridiculous and stupid since when we were first dating, she would go through a book a month. So… what the fuck?”

Anyway, I decided to brave the ice and cold (and do something Wife requested) and stop by the only business that isn’t a bar that is still open in this county at 7:00 pm on a Saturday. (Which, in itself, is a fact that astonishes and bothers me).

So, I walk in… grab a few things, a new bottle of Rum as we are almost out, and go to make my purchase. The Clerk sees the bottle and says, “Hey, havin’ a party tonight?” I give my polite chuckle and say, “No. Just restocking. Been a tough news cycle week.” The Clerk asks if my family is okay or if it is something like that. A few more customers come in and, since it is a small town, stop because everybody’s business is everybody’s business. I say, “Nah. Just… the constitutional issues surrounding the Muslim ban.” They all ask me what I mean. Because none of them had heard about this. So I explain to them what is going on with the President’s order and the exceptions and everything. I do it clinically because people should have facts NOT opinion and then make up their opinion after hearing facts. Well, after I told them what had happened.... they were celebrating. Saying, “It’s about time!” The raw, dripping, anti-Muslim hatred disgusted me. But what pushed me WAY over the edge? The fundamental ignorance and/or selected omission of CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES and long-standing American ideals? Yeah. I can’t stomach that. I am so ENRAGED by that. America is not supposed to be The Bully. We’re supposed to be The Protector. A bully hurts those who are smaller or weaker. A protector acts for the benefit of others; even if those others resent the protector. Again… USA isn’t always the Good Guy, A-OKAY. But our actions are supposed to be protective, encouraging, positive. Not bullying, mean-spirited, or negative.
