About the Demoralized Thing... in Everyday Ramblings

This is the back of St Michael the Archangel Church, the oldest Catholic Church in Portland. This building is from 1894. The history goes back further but in a small chapel that was moved two times before it landed on this plot not far from where I live.
The building is registered as an historic landmark but I know they are struggling to take care of it with the funds they have. I remember something about them selling the original windows to keep the building functional.
The priests that pass through are master gardeners an their plot is a joy to behold in late spring and early summer. The church was created to serve the Italian immigrants that flocked to Portland and settled in my neighborhood.
I have the day off today as a precautionary measure, because I had the next in line of my dental surgeries yesterday afternoon. I have about a gazillion stiches again. These are resolvable so easier to deal with. The news here is good, after a six-month wait in this area, the bone is strong and the implants are stable. Everybody is thrilled.
It was an absolute madhouse at the faculty dental clinic. They are frantically trying to catch up with all the days lost during the ice and snowstorm. People were tired and hungry and equipment wasn’t working and space was at a premium and once I figured out all that the waiting (which is so hard when you are anxious) and the calm deliberate manner they were dealing with complicated issues was much appreciated.
Still…I can think of a lot of things I would rather have been doing…:)
So after I get my crowns toward the end of February I have one more major area of concern and a lot of targeted maintenance and then I will be done. So depending on the quality of the bone in this other area, another nine months or so. My goal is to get it all done by the holidays next year. So still one major and a couple of minor surgeries to go.
Much to my surprise and delight all my students are coming over to the new space. I am $5 from breaking even on the rent for the month, my first month with a horrid weather event smack in the middle of it. We had so much fun on Monday with the core group all back in the same room and everybody checking in with everybody else.
I still need to market my Friday class. On Wednesday as I was arriving at the studio there was a lovely young woman with a bigger body gazing at the flyer for my class in the window and I told her I thought my class would be a good match for sure and she seemed interested. All I need is a couple more folks that enjoy the class and tell their friends.
Now if I can keep my spirits up because the news from Washington is demoralizing. I mean actually demoralizing as opposed to the kind of demoralizing a guy with small hands and a fragile ego experiences when people are saying his crowd wasn’t as big as that other guys…
Sigh.
