catchphrase in the rye in poetry

she made the mistake once
of saying it under her breath
of calling the man and his dog
“junkies”
but the man known for his drug-filled rages
the man with the giant loyal
constantly growling mutant hound
half-heard her say it that once
“junkies”
and replied
“the hell did you just say to me, woman?”
she was quick-thinking, thank God
so she said
“jinkies, I said jinkies”
“that’s my new catchphrase for when I have an idea”
“it’s like my EUREKA, you know?”
“jinkies”
and he fell for it, thank God
and she lived through the moment, thank God
but for all of the years that she’d know him
until the accident, of course
she had to occasionally toss it in there
so he’d never suspect and then turn on her
no matter how stupid it sounded
it kept her alive
“jinkies”
