Generating Heat in Everyday Ramblings

This is a cottage in the neighborhood that I am fond of taken at this time of year though not today because today we have snow and everything is cancelled. It is warming and raining right this minute, freezing rain, but we are beginning to thaw. I should be able to get to the store tomorrow.

They canceled church. They have never done that in the almost 19 years I have been a member. Everybody here (including me) was traumatized by the four-day ice storm last month. People are being much more prudent. Well, sort of, I am the only person that shoveled last night just before dark.

And! I got my Sunday New York Times this morning.

Mrs. Sherlock is somewhat functional after her holiday trip to Mexico and with much planning and gearing up we met at the church early yesterday and I got to see Ms. Frida my favorite poodle for the first time in over a month. It was perfect, we walked and talked and held cups of hot water and got back to our respective places about an hour before the snow started. Radar rocks!

My back is better but I am still contemplating a massage. I haven’t had any nerve pain for 24 hours. But it is still tight and I notice it when meditating with Diego and doing stuff in the kitchen that involves reaching and turning.

Enlightened self-interest, I will be teaching that part of the back tomorrow. Don’t tell, okay? It makes sense as I taught lower back last Monday. I cleared a small profit my first week. This is a huge relief. But I continue with the need to be vigilant and consistent in marketing.

I work this next week but the week after that besides taking the cats to the vet, going cross-country skiing (I hope) and introducing myself to my new tax person… marketing is my focus.

There is so much to do around my place, cleaning and sorting and making space. I am going to see if there is some creative way I can have a meditation space here. Diego is happy with the bed but my guess is as long as he is comfortable and warm, well fed and near enough to know what I am doing he’ll be happy.

This morning after doing the meditation I did a relaxed diaphragm centered breathing practice that involved getting long on the floor. As it is… well… winter, I wrapped myself in a blanket and before I had even finished tucking it in Carlo was on me.

So at least if I don’t feel useful today in other ways on this snow day, I know I have done my job as a heat source for a couple of handsome rescue cats. I am sure those of you in the southern hemisphere would be happy to share some of your heat with us. A mentally ill woman died of exposure yesterday in a parking garage near the studio. It is so sad.
