Maybe a Massage? in Everyday Ramblings

With dry scouring winds we have finally had some clearing and the mountains are gorgeous if one can stand being out in the wind long enough to view them. We are supposed to get more snow tomorrow and then a warming trend to our more typical cold wet dark.

It is all about the weather here. Everybody is preoccupied with it. I had a long friendly conversation with a newly retired fellow at a bus stop a few days ago all about how to cope with this change, how to gear up and the fact that we absolutely have to shovel when it snows. People don’t, which is crazy.

The leaf blower guys are blowing all the stuff the businesses are putting down to prevent slipping into the street. We are total amateurs.

There has been much fretting and consternation about Mrs. (and Mr.) Sherlock, who did not make it back from Mexico this week from their holiday tour when they were supposed to. They are fine; they encountered a snow delay in Utah on their way home. We were getting very creative in trying to find out where they were. I hope to get at least part of the story tonight.

I continue to struggle with my weight. I am really having a problem staying under my goal weight. My clothes are beginning to be a bit tight.

Part of it is all the dental surgery. I have this little break in the action where after a year I can eat almost normally and in anticipation of the next surgery in two weeks I am!

Also I didn’t try so hard to be out and about in the cold difficult weather the last two years, I basically avoided it. But now it is of longer duration and I have more to do so I need to adapt and that is effortful. I got a nice pair of ski pants yesterday (Christmas present!) to go with the fleece-lined pants that I have been wearing practically every day.

And provisioning is more of a hassle.

I really enjoyed the 4 day anatomy workshop and got a lot out of it but spending four days on a wood floor for 7 ½ hours a day did a bit of a number on my back. I think I strained some ligaments and have a little inflammation back there. The short unexpected spasms I was having for a few weeks are done now but I am having a little nerve pain mid back still and need to address it.

Maybe a massage? On a heated table. On warm flannel sheets? Oh yeah. I need to make that seeming splurge a reality.

I just don’t want to make it worse. It was yet another reminder that at 62 I need to start accommodating my aging body a bit. Not that I can’t do things, I just need to be considerate of it’s limitations.

The studio is right smack in the middle of the downtown core area and is on the ground floor. It is very lively down there and I admit to being relieved to see that a private security fellow was checking in on me as I was leaving Wednesday.

There was a fire in the afternoon in the wall of an old hotel that is now subsidized housing a few blocks away that made it all that much crazier.

They brought buses in and cranked up the heat so the residents could stay warm until they could find shelter for them. Luckily only one person was injured enough for treatment and they were able to get all the pets out. Traffic was all gridlocked.

Diego continues to meditate with me. He is such a cat. He is the most cat cat I have ever known, but what a sweetie.
