Deep in the Woods in Everyday Ramblings

I took this on Christmas morning too. It was one degree above freezing. I wonder how long they are going to let the ivy grow. The paint job looks relatively new.

We’ve had this bone chilling fog the last couple of days. It is all very atmospheric but a bit depressing. Yesterday afternoon I walked down to the new studio and dropped off all my paperwork and got the key. There was a brief period of clearing with some seriously interesting cloud patterns.

My first class at the studio is this coming Monday. Now that I have all the particulars in place I can finally do some marketing. And I need to do some marketing!

I read this article in one of the yoga sources I depend on yesterday about the whole idea of resolutions and the author had this interesting take on them. She wrote about the use of the word resolve in the context of looking at something from a distance and how over time it resolves into a thing clearly in focus. Your brain knows what it is…Say a blur moving in the sea becomes a ship, a riot of bright colors becomes the new spring jacket on your best friend as she walks towards you…

So for this coming year I am setting my sights on a thriving teaching model that not only gives me the opportunity to teach a broad range of students and help them bring more ease and stability into their lives but also to earn enough to clear my expenses and benefit modestly financially.

May it resolve into such.

My union representative for my day job got back to me yesterday to say that our contract goes through June 2019. I’ll be 65 a few weeks before. I may go ahead and retire then if there is anyway I can swing a year without Social Security. (My full benefit doesn’t kick in until 2020.) That is a big serious if. Maybe I can go part time somewhere else and take on more teaching hours.

I know I need to be creative in marketing and I am creative, so that is good but I also think I am going to hire someone to help with the practical aspects, making cards and fliers, that sort of thing.

My weight is up and I am going to weigh in over goal tomorrow morning at the Weight Watchers meeting. The good news about this is that I know what to do about it. The sad news is that it will take some focused attention and discipline to get there but once I am back on track I also know what to do to stay there.

As we are going to have, for us, very cold temperatures the next week, I got a new low impact aerobic DVD that I’ll mix in with the other ones I use to bring in some fresh ways of moving into my day.

Oh and that will help me stay warm. Boy I am glad I bought those ski pants! I am getting the cold old lady thing going on when I am out. Tights under my regular pants aren’t enough anymore. Shiver.

I read this article yesterday about how to do maintenance on one’s personal tech and one of the things they suggest is that you make sure all your photos are uploaded to the cloud and you can delete them off your devices so I was doing a bit of that.

Seeing all the colorful flower photos I took last spring helped me realize that this freezing wet gloom is temporary. Yippee!!!

Of course we do have more city immobilizing snow and ice in the forecast for next weekend. So we are not out of the woods yet.

Happy New Year’s Eve to those of you ahead of us! We’ll be along shortly.
