On Such a Winter's Day in Everyday Ramblings

We’ve had fog and sun and cold today but no snow or ice. For this I am truly grateful. Yesterday was the first day where it was possible to get around safely and what a joy it was. You wouldn’t think mailing packages and going to the grocery and the dentist would be exhilarating but they were; expensive (I paid for and received my first implant crown and mailing anything this close to Christmas…) but exhilarating because of the sheer freedom of movement.

This is one implant that is kind of sort of visible when I smile and it is beautiful and feels great. Wow. It’s been 11 months since I had most of the teeth out. And it makes eating just that much easier.

Saint Joe is in California this week. He needed the break but it is intense having done the four-day workshop and coming back to non-stop work coming in.

This is the last night I teach at the church. They decided at the very last minute to close the church building next week. They want to do some maintenance and give the sextons a break. And as the sextons work hourly I am sure there is some financial consideration factored in there somewhere too.

I am back now. I had six students, which is pretty amazing considering it is three days before Christmas and we had our annual solstice service just after. I was a little off because I am so excited by all the material I learned and want to share it but you know that just isn’t going to work all at once.

The holidays will be great, as I will have some time to put together some more coherent practices. My students were happy with what I gave them anyway. One of them fell asleep at the end. That is always a good sign.

Planning ahead for my week off in January I ordered some ski pants with a polar tech lining on sale. I, of course, ordered them in gray because, well, the cats are gray and that is my world now. I was surprised when they came that the lining is raspberry color. They are super warm, I wore them with my yoga tights underneath and for the first time in a few weeks my legs were warm.

There is a whole school of thought that says we will adapt to climate change.

I am grateful I can afford warm pants and rain gear and ice cleat shoe covers and trek poles as I seem to be out and about in it all rather a lot.

Happy Happy solstice to you all! For us the first day of winter is the best because it means it will be over soon. In eight weeks we will begin to see early daffodils, camellias and crocuses.

Of course if this excessive rain keeps up seeing them might require a rowboat. It wouldn’t be the first time folks have had to use oars and precarious rickety bridges cobbled together to get from here to there in our fair city.

I wonder if the weather gods would be willing to negotiate?
