our argent angels failing fast
silver tongues on wings of wax
waves of steel push ocean glass
headstart bles’t or lagging last
all psychopomp and circumstance
squeeze the shaman watch him dance
thrown o’er the bow of river stix
you stay alive or get your fix
gold or tarnished iron or brass
ill or well, all these will pass

no shortcut trick or loophole clause
could make momentum even pause
no matter your well-argued cause
coal engines press on di’mond flaws

as entropy demand ignores
hears not theirs or mine or yours
also eschewing human laws
self-same as it ignores applause
hears not her or his or ours
knows neither mercy nor justice
it is not vengeance or showbiz
entropy just simply is

still, guardian angles wane and wax
as if quicksilver read through glass
steel melts down to be recast
turn the lights out if you last
alas and alack and alack and alas
we’ve each only just so much gas
though earth seems endless with green grass
her oceans so deep so blue so vast
to those still living in the past
just turn the lights out if you’re last
