Subliminal Suggestion (The Power of) in Everyday Ramblings

I wanted to get a blanket to use for my personal yoga practice (as opposed to one I share with the cats) and was looking online for something reasonable and I chose a striped green, black and white fringed Mexican blanket.

After it came a few days ago I logged on to this 30-Day program that I have been doing as continuing education when I get a free moment and on the video all the students were sitting on their version of the exact blanket that I ordered.

We underestimate the power of suggestion to motivate us to behave in certain ways.

Today on the bus a young man in a hoodie carrying a shoe box sat next to me and as I was arranging to get off I glanced at his phone and on the screen was a clear Nazi symbol and then next to it a picture of our president-elect.

I don’t know if he was looking at a page from a leftist website or an alt-right one but it gave me pause nonetheless.

Based on the news today (from reputable sources) it could have been Russian propaganda. I know I am thinking about where I am getting my information from carefully these days…

Because of the holiday and folks traveling to be with each other I noticed as I walked by the new local Chinese restaurant this evening there was a complicated looking family group waiting for their food. Everybody was pretty much ethnically of European origin, which is kind of unusual as mostly folks that are ethnically Asian eat there.

Anyway there was a teenage girl, she looked to be mixed race, beautiful, like our sitting President. She was at the end of the table (they were all sitting on stools), and she had her arms crossed and she was sulking! She was radiating sulkiness all the way out onto the wet street.

It made me laugh but I am sure it is not fun for her family. They will tease her about it later I hope.

Have I mentioned it is raining? :) We had 3 ½ inches of rain yesterday! It poured for 12 hours straight. Today it was more like just sort of regular rain but after a crazy wet October we are now over our monthly average for November and we still have a week to go.

Renting the yoga studio is a go starting next month. I need to get an insurance rider and put together some marketing materials. It is interesting…one thing that was important to me was how it smells. My experience is that I am not happy in places where the smell is off to me.

It is totally subjective; I admit that. I was fine with the previous studio when Olga was running it but after she left the smell changed. Or my perception of it did.

This place also has a very unusual large painting in the entry area of a suburban block with a lady in the foreground in a leopard skin dress wearing a crown and a whole lot of golden bees. She is not wearing the bees; they are sort of around her.

I did ask about it.

The earnest young owner said it was by a friend of his and it wouldn’t be staying. He said his friend has a thing for bees.

Kes told me that this afternoon after she ran some errands she came home to find both their cats, Jack and Henry curled up together sleeping on the downstairs guest bed.

Henry (at 12 weeks old) has been relentlessly picking on his staid older brother who tends to be somewhat high strung so this measure of acceptance is a breakthrough of major proportions and means everybody at their house can breathe a deep sigh of relief.

I’ll hear all about it tomorrow as they are coming up for lunch. Sweet!
