A quiet day in Flaming June

My daughter is here, for a week. Unfortunately, I won’t be here for all that time, I’ll be in Madrid for a few days, and then to Dubai at the weekend. I should be more excited I suppose.
I’m not.
I am grateful though. I’m grateful I can make a living this way, a few days here and there, they pay me pretty well, more than I’m worth I’d say.
A quiet day today. We walked along the beach with the dogs, talked about this and that. I don’t think she’ll come back here, not to live. She’s married now, their life is elsewhere, they have their own places to go, that’s good. I listen to her tell me about life on their canal boat, keeping busy against the cold, a possible move to Scotland. And I’m happy, to walk along the beach, quietly, with the dogs.
There’ll be plenty more days like this, I’m sure.
But you never know.
A quiet day, in which nothing really happens, a walk by the sea, a trip to the supermarket, salmon and pasta for lunch, watching a film in the afternoon, all in the company of my beautiful daughter.
There’ll be plenty more days like this, I’m sure.
But you never know.
