Every weekend needs to be a four-day weekend. I feel more refreshed than I have in months!

I took off Saturday because Aaron and I had tickets to go to Prairie Home Companion. At the time I was asking for the day off, I thought “what the heck!” and asked for the Friday off too. Then, early last week, when I got the schedule for this week, I was randomly given this Monday off too. So delightful!

Friday I had a silly day with my mum. I got my flu shot, wheee. We ate lunch at Broder’s, an Italian place that has some of the most delicious Italian food I have ever tasted. Om nom nom. Then, we went to a consignment shop next door. It was fantastic! So many fantastic deals! I got a beautiful wool Burberry skirt for a steal! Will definitely go back and perhaps try to sell some things. We also wandered around a few other places. It was a nice, lazy day.

Saturday mum and I got some major cleaning done downstairs. Got rid of some horrible, old furniture. Moved things around. Really cleared up a lot of space. The place still needs a huge amount of work, but making a big dent like we did feels like a step in the right direction. Over the past weeks, Aaron has also been making good progress fixing up the room that will eventually be our bedroom, but has run into a bit of a snag as far as the hardwood floor in there goes-it has a huge amount of waxy coating on it, which is making his sanding/refinishing project go very slowly. He’s currently taking a break for the time being to work on his grad school application. Yay grad school!

Late Saturday afternoon, Aaron and I went to Prairie Home Companion. It was really fun! Though made me very nostalgic for Wits. Chris Thile is a charming new host and one hell of a mandolin player! It was also really fun seeing Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats live for a few numbers! I definitely hope to get to more shows in the near future :)

Yesterday was spent doing more cleaning. My aunt Jan in California wants my grandpa’s record collection, which numbers in the hundreds, in addition to some random furniture items. I think she has no idea how much it will cost to ship the lot to her. Anyway, we filled 7 18 gallon bins with records. They are packed full and SO HEAVY. Then Aaron and I did some less involved cleaning and organizing. There’s still some stuff to go through, but the majority has been done. We still have to get rid of a large, old, horrible couch and, depending upon which rooms end up being worked on in what order, moving various furniture items from room to room. It’s such a massive project, but once done, I know it will be really nice to live down there. I am also going to turn a closet into a fort/reading nook for myself and am SO EXCITED about it! It’s going to be so awesome and cozy!

Today, I did a little cleaning in the bedroom. Aaron and I watched a few episodes of Orphan Black (so good!) and I’ve been more or less lazy. He’s working on grad school application stuff now and I’m going to try to (finally!) finish my book, I think. It’s Grunt by Mary Roach, which is quite interesting but it’s about military history and technology and I can only read it in small amounts.

Here’s to long weekends and more of them in my future!
