fix me to a star in poetry

fix me to a star
and I will sail forever
dogged juggernaut

fix me to a star
and I won’t stop until I
pass out or hit land

tell me a direction to drive
and I will go that way until
the tires blow or I die
whichever of those comes last

point me down a road and I
will walk until my legs give out
I won’t go fast or anything
but I will limp along that way
until my body will no longer move

fix me to a star
then give me a ship or a car
and I will pilot toward that
burning image from some distant space
projected from some distant past
until I get there
or until I hit a wall I can’t barrel through

but when I don’t know
which way I am
supposed to go
I end up just sitting around writing
less dogged juggernaut
more doggerel and jumbled thoughts
adrift without direction
my toilings not worth mention
fix me to a star
that is not a suggestion
that is a plea
I need to know which way to go
without one
how can I be me?
