cabaret in yes i'm aware it's 2016.

so.as you can probably tell from the title my mom & I saw ‘cabaret’ yesterday.she had a coupon. when I saw it advertised on tv or somewhere at first i didn’t want to go. but then i’m like ‘ok well we’ll see what happens. and it’ll be interesting. and either way i get to spend time w/ my mom’. and I like ‘mom time’ so.

well i’m glad i went. i’d seen the movie on pbs yrs. ago. w/ Liza. The show is different from the movie it changed a lot [not that i vividly remember the movie as i don’t] which is good er that they changed it otherwise it’d be ‘but.........i’ve already seen this’.um and it was interesting.and dark. and sad. oh and x rated which is fine . i have been to amsterdam so. it’s like ‘oh scantily clad ladies. oh ok’. The 2nd act was dramatic. The money scene w/ the mc and the ladies. and the suitcase. yeah that was.disturbing. and the hierarchy in that was pretty damn blatant. I thought the older couple was cute. he was jewish and she [his lady] wanted to marry him which wasn’t allowed then. oh they left out the chair dance at least in this version they did. I remember that from the movie. at the end of the show I thought there’d be gun shots. it’s nice that there weren’t as they’re always a bit startling in shows. yeah the end got to me. I knew about the holocaust and had been to the anne frank house [again glad i went really sad] but to see it actually played out like that...........in a visual auditory way onstage.was different. i know the show’s fiction but it is part of our history.er the history of the world.

I didn’t realise untill my mom told me that the gorilla was a representation of racism. I remember seeing it in the movie and looking back it just seemed random. but now. oh..........oh that’s what it means.um wow. and it’s a bit sad.

The song ‘maybe this time’ although it’s about her [Sally I mean. the main lady. er the lead] pregnancy and her relationship w/ the guy from PA could be about depression. you know. ‘everybody loves a winner but nobody loves.........’. the title song. and untill yesterday I thought the title song was a song about a well cabaret. like ‘hey we’re all here to have a good time and there’s music and the host will show you to your seat’. but then. to me it’s about the life she used to have and the way things are changing.
i’ve actually sang ‘maybe this time’ at karaoke. i think the performance was better than the vocals in my performance of it.

oh so before the 2nd act actually started the mc danced w/ 2 audience members first a lady and then a guy. and had they been ‘plants’ as they’re called they would’ve been hella good at not acting like it.but no they weren’t plants. The lady was good but the guy wasn’t.but he was silly and had fun. In a way that’s a bit like..........well LGBT people.er. that wasn’t clear. nowadays people can dance w/ ladies or guys can dance w/ guys. and in some cultures that’s actually accepted. like w/e i don’t care. you dance w/ whoever you want to and if you don’t ok. you marry whoever you want to.
also at the end i thought we were going to have a john waters [of hairspray] moment cause of the trench coat and the mc was the mc at of course the cabaret. but no.

part of the 2nd act reminded me of the part in ‘bettie blue eyes’ when they’re dancing and they stop due to the air raid siren. that was one of the first shows I saw in London my first time there. i was 18. it’s about a pig during the war. [i’m not sure how many people are familiar w/ the show].

The scantily clad people that bit reminded me of ‘chicago’. and the mc reminded me of the ‘mc in la cage’.

the 1st act was kindof like a monet painting.in that.it was cute and fun and flowery and awww maybe even a bit pleasent. and the 2nd was a frida painting.right there and in your face no holds barred.unplugged. but not exactly. i prefer frida’s art actually. she’s awesome.

so. yes cabaret.
