I try to remember that my grandchild, while smart and very vocal, is still only 5 years old.
Me & the stinkers kind of had a semi-bad night last night. Hell my night was bad because I didn’t get to go to bed until after midnight which is never good for me. More on that in a moment.
So, daughter picks him up from school and holds him until it’s time for her to go to work or whatever it is that she does. She brought him home yesterday at about 7:30 close to 8. They get there and he’s being whiney which, he’d been doing that lately. Snapping and acting impatient and vocalizing his frustrations. So after two PBJ’s water, whining, and me not being able to watch Arrow like I wanted to, “Come on. It’s bed time.”
He comes to the room and crawls across the bed. I tell him he needs to take his school clothes off. He, in his own way, blew up at me. I, in turn, spoke with a slightly elevated, stern tone and he starts to cry. I let him get most of that out and then told him to get quiet, calm down and let’s talk. He said he was crying because I was mad at him. I let him know that I was frustrated. We talked about what frustrated meant. I told him why I was frustrated. He tried to make it seem like I was yelling at him and mad at him before he cried. I told him that he was frustrated with me for no reason and that’s why I spoke to him like that. I held him and told him to talk to me about what he’s feeling. He said he was sleepy. He said his days at school are just too long. He likes school and has fun learning, but the days are just too long. I told him that I had a secret. That my days are longer than his. He gets to hang out with his momma after he gets out of school and I have to stay at work until 5p. I told him we all have long days but that’s what happens when you grow up. I think he just misses nap time. I know I miss naptime. LOL He had hives at school. The nurse gave him Benedryl and rubbed some hydrocortisone on him. He looks fine now, but I think I need to watch what I wash his clothes with now.
We did our nightly routine of prayers and talking to each other and he got quite the giggle out of me calling him cranky pants. As he was drifting to sleep, he says to me, “Gaddah, I want to stay with you so you can keep me safe from the aliens so I won’t die.” He’s been asking lately if aliens are real and I told him to tell me if anyone hurts him because I have to keep him safe. He whispered out an I love you. And we went to sleep.
I woke up late this morning because my alarm didn’t go off. As we were waking and in the dark, he felt something on the mattress pad and said, “what is this?? turn the light on!” And like a robot I did it. My afterthought was, “who the hell you talking to like that??” LOL Turns out his nose bled overnight. I turned the air off so it wouldn’t be too cold, but with no air moving around I guess that made the conditions right for a nose bleed. I see he’s plagued with them too. At any rate. We got him all cleaned up, teeth brushed and he was a better kid this morning.
I feel for the babies because they can’t express themselves. This will definitely be a big test of my patience with him. But if he acts a fool, I will still spank that butt if he gets out of line knowingly.
And with that, I get this day started.
Take care.
Kindest regards,
Sister
