The Last of It For Now in meh...

For some time now, I’ve thought of and looked at people as being that first. People. Humans. We are all brothers and sisters in this thing called life.
Once upon a time I use to use adjectives with my nouns. No one was ever “there was a guy I met” or “I remember this one lady”. I use to say a white man, or an ugly chick, or dirty white lady (if that’s what the story called for).
After I met Him, he kind of helped me change my perspective on things, even though I would have to call him on the same thing later on. I was having a rough day. My then supervisor was always hard on me. I remember one day she said to me, “I thought you of all people would work harder for me.” This was alluding to the fact that we were both black. It was implied trust me. So one day I was pissed and fussing about her and called her my black supervisor. He asked me a simple question: “What does her having to be black have to do with what you’re telling me?” From that point on, I was conscious about how I thought about people, things in general. Unless it’s a cultural thing, no one act can be pinpointed to one group of people simply because of their race. That’s actually evidenced in music right now. Once upon a time, a certain singing style was prominent in R&B and Soul music which was predominantly considered “black music” but there are so many, what we call, “Blue-eyed soul singers” out here and those that sing with heart that have been through something you can’t tell the difference.
We’ve all crossed over into each others worlds making us universal beings of the human race.
So stop the shenanigans, please.
I have a 5 year old I’m looking after these days.
I need his world to be awesome.
Kindest regards,
Sister
