So we are back from a great week in and around Lucca, just 20 kilometres from Pisa (of Leaning Tower fame) - the weather was wonderful for three and a half days, and then a bit mixed - but no problems - it was warm rain.
Just a thought - we flew into Pisa - which has the Galileo Galilei airport - a commemoration of the great scientist and thinker - and in the UK we have the John Lennon Airport, George Best Airport, and even Robin Hood Airport - just shows you attitudes towards culture in two societies.
The hotel was superb - and if we were not on a package would have cost an arm and a leg - we ate there nearly every night - not cheap - but superb food. That was not in the package - but the breakfasts were.
For a start there are three of my favourite pictures - we know the small spa town of Bagni di Lucca well from previous visits, and have styaed in the hotal which is now closed. We went up by bus to meet friends and have lunch - and here is the front of the hotel - and the surreal umbrellas - I love this picture

and the wonderful garden at the back of the hotel - and the rooms where we used to stay with the balcony

And this is just the best place - a medieval bridge over the river about 10 kms away - still there after centuries - and the most wonderful design - called Pone della Maddalena (the Magdalen Bridge) or by others the Diavolo Bridge - the Devil’s Bridge
