I have been sleeping pretty good last few days. Last night I went to bed early around 8:30 I was up at 4 this morning. I am getting in to my new book Creation of the American Republic 1776-1787 by Gordon S Wood. I finally finished the first chapter and started reading Chapter 2. Chapter 2 started out by talking about thui one man from Philadelphia, Thomas Shippin. He was introduced to the court of f Louis XVI by Thomas Jefferson. Shippin wrote home to his father about his experiences. He wrote about the lavish display of wealth and was somewhat repulsed He said that many of the King’s subjects lived in misery because of lavish spending of the court He conclude his letters by saying that he was different and the new country was different. He was a republican and was thankful that he came from a republican country.
I remember reading that the author said Shippin thought he was different from the noblemen of France. He was republican. His country fought a revolution and won. They created a new government not based on kingship but through elected assemblies. But this was more than winning a revolution and creating a new government. Republicanism was a way of thinking. and acting differently It was new and Americans cratered the happiest country of the world because they created a republican society.
I did a lot of reading today I am almost finished wit chapter 2. Also went out today. Went with my fiancé Chocolatechip on the van. She had to get a couple of things for recertification. First we went to Change INC for a printout of a dental bill. Then we went to the eye doctor on Three Springs Drive for another print out, Then we went over to Steubenville to pick up a few groceries., It was good to get to get out and even better to get back.
I have bee feeling pretty good the last couple of day. On a scale of one to five with five the highest I would give depression a one and anxiety a two. I have been doing my best to focus on the positive. I’ve have not been ruminating about my past or all the mistakes I made. I have not been thinking that my life Is over just because I turned 65, I guess positive thinking does help in dealing with depression. Life seems pretty good.
After all I have a lot of positive things going on in my life. 1 I have a roof over my head. 2 I have insurance that covers most of the cost of my meds 3 I have food to eat. 4 I have clothes to wear. 5 I have a wonderful fiancé in Chocolatechip. 6 I have phone, internet and cable tv 7 I have plenty of books to read. 8 I am in fairly good physical health 9 I have a worker that comes in and fixes breakfast and cleans. 10 I have and SSI and social security check. 11 I have a wonderful support system in Healthways 12 Everything I have is bought and paid for I only have to worry about paying Comcast and rent. That is a good feeling.
Life is pretty good and I have a lot of things to be thankful for.
