The glare is back but at least it is cooler out.
I had this strong feeling that I should prep to teach material about soothing, nourishing, stabilizing, stretching and strengthening the structures of the lower back on Friday. Mine has been a little sore lately, no big deal but I was thinking I haven’t taught those sequences in awhile.
Mrs. Sherlock leaves Friday and will be stuck on a plane for a long time. I was telling her on our walk yesterday that would be the focus of both classes this coming week. She approved and then when we went to get our post walk iced green tea (I brought a dog biscuit for Frida) the Street Roots newspaper vendor on our corner was clearly in a great deal of back pain.
Someone had given him a bottle of Advil. I talked to him about some resting positions he could get some relief in.
Then one of my two longest students messaged me on Facebook to tell me that his partner, my former IT person had to have emergency surgery last night for a bulging disc in his lower back.
He has been having pain and discomfort periodically since I have known him and the last time it got bad I made all sorts of accommodations for him in class and a few days later texted him that he needed to see a medical professional if he was still in pain.
He felt better so it got let go… I felt terrible for him and his partner who clearly wasn’t going to get any sleep last night and I ended up having a disturbing nightmare and waking up myself.
These are two of my most favorite students ever, they are such good guys with a great sense of humor and I am going to miss them is class so much.
They just posted a post op picture about an hour ago and he is smiling so it looks like he got some relief and some good drugs.
I got a card I’ll have everybody sign tomorrow but it is hard to contemplate weeks without both of them in class. I so hope they come back! If they do I bet they will take it all just a tad more seriously.
All I want to do now after spending the whole afternoon in the kitchen prepping and cooking all the food I got at the farmer’s market yesterday is rest. I am going to see if I can take an extra day off and maybe go hog wild and make a four-day weekend with the Labor Day holiday.
Oh geez, I have the hiccups. Diego is finding them most entertaining. He is leaning up against my hip having a bath. He is such a good groomer. Carlo is crashed out at my feet.
I hope to have an uneventful week starting about, umm, now.
