I’m a strong believer that something without a negative root shouldn’t be treated differantly becuase something with a negative root is similar.

So with that, let’s talk about how “Mummer’s Day” blacking up is not Blackface…having a very differant root and just because there exists a sick history of mockery from zweity piet to minstral shows doesn’t mean that it isn’t relative and not realted to blackface shows.

Our history is a very interesting beast… these days blackface = racism but the reality of the times is very differant… for example the Manchester textile strikes against the confederate unifrom order was pro Black America and had minstral shows in support.

My point being, although utterly abhortant in the 19th century and now, we can’t project our beliefs onto the past and we should act with absolutism, even in our favour as anti racists.

Similarly the Semana Santa ( Spanish religious ho ha looks like KKK) and Jain swastikas, or French/ Roman eagles…

I know these things are incredably hard for some people to deal with but it’s is not what they are… I image the Union Jack has a similar pain for many.

My point being, I don’t think that we should allow shitty things people have used to sully the non shitty things…
