Title:

This is one of the many community gardens in my world.

We are in the midst of high summer and it is hot hot hot out. Today was another power company Flex Day and I spent most of the three-hour no power window reading a book. I know! A book!

It is a paperback (The Selfishness of Others An Essay on the Fear of Narcissism by Kristin Dombek) that I had heard favorably mentioned by a journalist that covers books that I admire and when I looked it up it was cheaper to buy the actual book than to get an electronic copy and I figure I can sell it back to Powell’s for credit or donate it to our annual church book sale, which is huge and has lots of good stuff.

I was explaining a simple posture augmentation exercise to one of my students (the exercise normally employs a foam yoga block) and I told him he could also use books. The next week he brought a couple of books and showed me how he was doing it to confirm that he was doing it correctly.

He was funny, he said I don’t read but I do have books. And then he proceeded to tell us all that he had really gotten a lot from one of the books he had. Maybe he is a sleep reader? Kind of like a sleepwalker. Someone who reads without knowing they are reading. :)

Drinks up at Mrs. Yacht Club’s house was just lovely. She lives in a comfortable house in a very exclusive neighborhood that is built on a hill. They used to have a view of the mountains but then all the trees grew around the house, which makes it very serene and refreshing even though it is quite close in.

A few days before S had left me out front of her local high end spiritual book and metaphysical supply shop with Frida to go in and check when their psychics and or tarot card readers were available. She has two friends coming to visit at the end of next month that she knew would enjoy getting readings. It turns out not to be a match in terms of availability and when she told me this as we walked around the block to her house I told her that I did readings if it was important.

She has never had a tarot card reading and I was a bit astonished by that as she is quite an adventurous person but she was a navy nurse harking from a military family so…but still… she went to Berkeley…

Anyway…on Monday she texted me asking if we could bring cards to drinks. I am like, we are bringing wine and flowers I don’t think we need cards and she texted back, no the tarot cards. Duh!

So with an easy light dinner and sweet wine we sat out on their big deck and I did readings for both S and Mrs. Yacht Club. It was a first for them both. I think they enjoyed it.

When I got to class on Wednesday S was telling one of the other students about how I read her cards and how that gave her some insight into some of the issues she is dealing with as she moves more fully into retirement.

She said for sure she wants me to read for her friends when they come.

We’ll see. It was a fun relaxing evening and quite an adventure finding the house. Thank goodness for GPS.

I got the rest of my stitches out today and am a very happy camper about that.

Oh yeah.
