We tend to go on a lot of day trips in the summer because the weather is beautiful and Mike and I love theme parks and being outside so why not? Mike had last week off of work (vacation time) so first of all we went to Legoland near Toronto to try it out. This place is nothing at all like the huge Legoland theme park in Florida I’m sure (I’ve never been but heard it’s large). After all, the Legoland we visited in Vaughn, Ontario is in a mall so how big can it be, right? We invited my parents since they like to do stuff with us sometimes and we haven’t gone anywhere like this with them yet this year. I was just hoping Summer would be good in the car since she likes to screeeeeeeeeeeam still whenever we go for drives. I sat in the back with her so she could see me and hopefully I could distract her from her wild, banshee screaming. We do this any time we need to go on long trips now. The boys went in my parents car which they were SUPER excited about probably cuz it was something different and my dad always has an endless variety of snacks for them. We did that though cuz we had a couple dressers to return to IKEA from a recall.
So.....Legoland was okay. It was much smaller than I expected. There were a couple rides, a room where Toronto was replicated in lego and a large area which had ramps the kids could have lego cars they built go down (Cody and Miles did this endlessly). There was also a small play area, lots of pits for building lego big and small (regular and duplo), an area where you could build a lego structure and have an earthquake shake it, an eating area and a 4D lego show. We stayed for a few hours. Mike took Cody on the rides since Summer was glued to me as usual. I was a bit jealous but what can you do? We both took Cody to the 4D lego show which was fairly boring and I felt guilty afterwards when we got out after 20 mins and my mom said Summer was just screaming with them the whole time. Apparently she wasn’t a fan of Legoland. Maybe it was too noisy for her? I don’t know....We stayed several hours at Legoland. Miles mostly just played with the ramp. He just turned 3 so rides are still too scary for him and the atmosphere was a bit wild and crazy so neither of my boys had the patience and stillness to sit and build a lego structure. Summer was so thrilled when we finally left…the noisiness and kids running around made her crazy.
A few days after that we went to Niagara Falls for the day with my MIL. We started out by going to a buffet breakfast which is something Mike was DYING for since we don’t have many buffet breakfast places around here and he was craving a big plate full of bacon/eggs/toast/homefries. Summer surprised me by just chilling out in her car seat and enjoying the breeze while I ate. Usually she wants to be held 95% of the time. I limited myself to one plate of food even though I totally could have eaten twice as much. I didn’t want my diet to go off the rails and feel horrible about it. After that we went to glow in the dark mini golf which scared Miles lol. He didn’t like the darkness and there were monsters roaring occasionally which freaked him out. I didn’t even bother playing since juggling a baby while trying to putt just seemed like too much work lol. Summer and I wandered around and I enjoyed how gorgeous the artwork was in the place. The theme was wizards and it was extremely well done. The weather was stifling this day so we were really enjoying the A/C and Summer didn’t know what to make of the dim lighting so she was really calm.
After mini golf, we went to go check out the falls and couldn’t believe how hot it was out!! The weather said something like “feels like 42” and after a 10 minute walk Cody was wilting and exhausted. I saw water shooting out like in a fountain nearby and hoped it was a splash pad so the kids could cool off but when we got closer we saw it was just a fountain you couldn’t go in. So I splashed them for a little while to cool them off and we drank a ton of water in the shade. Mike got annoyed at us for complaining of the heat so early in the day. He was like “fine! Let’s just go home then!” Ugh. Hate it when he’s like that....I was just trying to keep my children from being miserable on a day that was supposed to be fun. I decided we would go to the arcade next since the A/C in there was amazing. We stayed for a while and got completely cooled off. I nursed Summer and her eyes were popping out at all the bright colors of the different arcade machines lol. Then we went for ice cream and Mike and Cody went on the Skywheel (huge ferris wheel). The heat was just awful. I just wanted to go home but didn’t want Mike to be pissed off and feel like it was a waste of a trip. We went to the Hershey store after that and the kids had some free samples and we looked around. Then we just decided that was it. It was just wayyyy too humid. We could barely breathe and all just wanted to drop even though we were going in and out of A/C a lot. So we were there from around 9-3:30. I was so happy to leave since I didn’t think any of the kids, nevermind a young baby, should have been out in that weather if even I was finding it rough. Summer was so well behaved that day though. She napped lots....looked around at everything....and was just really calm. So unlike her behavior at home lol.
