A New Take on Flex Time in Everyday Ramblings

Because of all the other stuff going on I haven’t taken that many pictures this last year. This is a dahlia in Kes’s garden last Sunday. I am going on another all day hike and dine with the trail club next Saturday so I hope to get some interesting pictures then.
The big bouquet of flowers I hiked up to get at the work Farmer’s Market on Tuesday has this huge dark red dahlia that S and Mrs. Yacht Club identified as a DinnerPlate dahlia when I was describing it in class on Wednesday. They (the flowers, not S and Mrs. Yacht Club) are out in the hall and I need to do a little arranging now a few days later.
I haven’t found a spot with enough natural light to get a decent shot and the pictures I did take out in the patio well do not represent the true colors as they are much much deeper and richer to the eye.
Carlo leapt up on top of the kitchen cabinets this morning and was exploring up there and took a misstep and he and an old metal dish drainer came flying about 8 feet and crashing down. He is fine, just a little shaken up and inclined to spend a little time in the cool dark comfort under the futon in the front room.
He is having a bath on the bed now.
Kes is pretty discouraged with the healing from her misstep last week and her swollen sprained ankle. She’s had it looked at and now has a better brace that is giving her the support she needs. I know she is fretting a bit about all this because they are leaving Wednesday for a long planned for trip to Canada.
The cable guy was very nice but man was he wearing strong cologne! It turns out (no surprise here) that the cats had managed to get the cable box unattached in a unique way. I was pretty embarrassed but he was happy it was an easy fix because it meant he had more time for lunch.
So I have full access now to the Olympics in terms of what is being broadcast commercially.
Not that I am watching most of it. I keep falling asleep.
The sun came back yesterday and it was hot. It will be even hotter today. S and me had planned a stair climb for this afternoon but I admit that I got a little nauseous after walking 5 miles in less heat yesterday even though I had a hat on and was avoiding direct sun.
I signed up with our local utility for this thing with my full renewable power election called Flex Time. The power company identifies peak power usage windows based on the weather and their records and asks you to use as little power during that period as you can. It is called Flex Time.
Yesterday from 4 to 7 was one and this afternoon is another. They send you stats on how you did based on prior years and you get a discount on your bill. I unplug practically everything and leave or read when I am here. So yesterday my shady walk was supposed to be a win win. I save power, I get exercise and I get some grocery shopping done.
But although I enjoyed the first part and the creative way I needed to access my route because the track is all fenced off now it got to be a little too much.
I stayed awake enough just to plug everything back in and read a little when I got home.
Knowing one’s limits surely is a fine art isn’t it? Especially when the weather starts getting intense.
