right so in my last entry i wrote about the people at my grandmother’s memorial service and how i knew.
Well this entry’s about the display boards.

so the ser. er service [ha i was about to put survey but that doesn’t make any sense in ref. to the topic um] but yes the service. er at the service there were these display boards my Aunt Helen had made up. so. There were photos on them. on one it had family and then.i think maybe pictures of the cousins. and then the Eadys. and then well i remember seeing the Yules pictures of them.

The Yules are the people from Scotland.......i don’t know.if my grandmother met them in Scotland or.........or not but apparently she was there the summer i was born. [summer of ‘87]. i’m the oldest of all the cousins. on.......on my dad’s side. i’m 28 my sister’s uh apparently 26, Margeret’s 24, Peter’s 22 and Sarah’s 21. i forget when her birthday is. but more on that later.
Right so the Yules are Barbara her husband Jack and their daughter Heather. she looks nothing like her parents. She’s a harpist and at one point I think Jack made harps. he’s a nice guy quiet can’t understand a word he says due to his accent. or at least when i was growing up it was hard to. Barbara is the more talkative one and she.is a storyteller or she was. no in that.I think she teaches a class on it maybe. and Jack plays the accordion or he did but not professionally i don’t think. Barbara’s more um animated and lively. they have cats not sure how many. they’re 80 apparently. and i think the cats and their age is why they didn’t come.
So on the board there are white arrows pointing from my grandmother to the pictures of the people in her family.which i thought was cool. We had at least 1 display board of her dance students in costume I think they were jesters or something. They were on easels my dad had [and again more on that later] when I got there but it was windy that day so the boards uh moved around.
So onto the actual service. well about 15 mins. before it started people talked and mingled. er i guess that’s sortof the same thing. And that’s when I talked to John and Betty and the other neighbors and uh linda. so the service began w/ Helen’s family singing. [oh i have cousins news btw]. My Uncle Ty the one who talks a lot got up and read a well done biography of my grandmother. he’s like ‘am i loud enough? no one’s ever told me louder slower yes’. he was emotional of course. At one point Helen came up and said something.........um oh my dad did. Linda did. Poli the dancer did. the guy from town hall. anne claire did.
oh and my grandfather did. I didn’t understood what he said but I understood the feeling. and it was a good feeling. well evidently what he said was something like through my grandmother he’d gained a third son my dad. [the grandfather in reference is my mom’s dad. Bob the one who’s 96. he already has 2 sons my mom’s brothers]. I thought that was so nice. um a few other people talked. oh john [macdonald] talked. He quoted the ‘love is lovelier’ song. he didn’t sing it though. This was in reference to his dad John who as i’ve mentioned married Carol my grandmother. cause they were both on their 2nd marriage.
Near the end my Aunt Helen quoted part of Lin Manuel Miranda’s speech at the..........Tonys i think it was.the recent awards show whichever one that was. and i was sitting there remembering how great that moment was. and the dancers talked. We had a few laughs.
My grandmother was funny.........but ya know. cause of what happened 5 yrs. ago it’s hard for me to see her that way. i don’t quite relate to the stories people told about her. [and also some of them probably happened before i was born so]. Oh my sister got up and talked as did my mom. not everyone did and ya know I liked that cause that way I wasn’t the only one not saying anything. oh and Helen talked before her quoting the speech. She’s like ‘when people say you have your mother’s eyes or you have your mother’s smile i mean i’m a scientist so i know half your dna comes from your mom’ or something. yeah she uh teaches at Middlebury.in Vermont.

It was a good service. it wasn’t super sad like i thought it’d be. and the park was really nice. i like parks my faves are wash park and cheeseman.

more on what happened after the service coming up!
