Scrub That in Everyday Ramblings

Okay, Photobucket is acting wonky today. I had to get very creative to get the address of this picture so I could post it. Our scrub landscape is currently full of chicory, wild sweet peas and Queen Anne’s lace (or wild carrot).
At least it is a beautiful afternoon after a cool mostly cloudy morning.
I got all my walking in early which is such a great feeling.
And I am in need of things to feel great about mostly because I am tired and things that wouldn’t normally be annoying (like oh say my cable connection not working on the night of the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics).
But it is all relative. I feel so bad for Kes and Most Honorable whose downstairs freezer failed last night and they had to toss out a year’s worth of now thawed blueberries that he picked himself last month.
Is there something, you know, um, happening with the planets or stars or something? I know that according to the Chinese astrological calendar this is supposed to be chaotic year. You think?
I did get most of my stitches out Thursday afternoon. Other than the fact that I do not like having stiches out because it hurts and I have had way too much exposure to them in the last four years I am happy about that.
No more stitches until probably early February! Unless I have a moment of madness and decide to get the one certain stable implant crowned early. My plan now is to wait until they are all nicely healed and stable and have them all done at once.
He did tell me that to promote healing no solid food on that side until then. Wow. That will make it a year. That means no Traders Joe’s Dark Chocolate Christmas Star Cookies for this woman. Sniff.
Today I cooked fresh fresh beets in a new way. I steamed them for 25 minutes and then pulled the skins off when they cooled and cut them in sections and coated them in a little tiny bit of olive oil and then slow roasted them for another 25 minutes. They get all sweet and crispy but are still soft enough for me to eat.
I bet I could do that with carrots too. I need to get more veggies in my diet. I have been living on fruit and soft tortillas with a little shredded cheese. I can throw spinach and chard and beet greens into a smoothie with almond milk and protein powder too if I make the time.
Last weekend Kes brought me a crème brûlée. I had it mid week and it was so good but about a gazillion points. That definitely pushed me into negative territory for Weight Watchers tracking and my weight was up slightly this week. The wine and the birthday cake at the party didn’t help that much either.
Oh well. Big exciting life here…
I had a good chat with S this morning and got to hang out with Frida the poodle. She just went to the groomer a few days ago and is all trimmed and soft. Hanging out with both of them was good for my soul even though Carlo and Diego do not approve.
It turns out she gets groomed at a pet store that carries the recycled newspaper litter I need to use so Diego doesn’t act out and S offered to take me up there when I need it. Sweet deal.
After all this excitement I think I need a nap.
Thanks for stopping by.
