respectable in poetry

I’d rather be humane than respectable
rather be involved than respectable
rather do good than be respectable
respectability’s overrated

decorum sounds great in principle
but it quickly becomes the sword and shield
of those protecting the most vicious elements
of the prevailing status quo
they make it impolite to make changes
they make it complicated
they make you seem like the rude asshole
for trying to make things better
because, y’know
it’s “simply not done”
fuck decorum
fuck it in its decorated ear
fuck it in its ugly ear
