Fritz felt uneasy as he stood in the adjoining door between their suites. Gerty had kept her shorts on but had chosen a breezy skirt to go over top. A silk blouse completed the wardrobe change. Gerty was dressed well enough to visit the establishments below and asked for cash and a card for purchases. Fritz was hopeful shopping or dinner was Gerty’s only plan. Without him he felt Gerty could put herself in unsafe situations as she had no fear of pain or measure of risk.

Gerty grabbed Fritz’s hand and gave it a squeeze.

“Stop pouting you worry-wart. Gerty will be back.”

Fritz also did not like when Gerty spoke about herself in the third person. Always wary Fritz heard alarms going in his mind. Gerty shooed him out of her room and closed the door. Once again in private Gerty went to her bags and secured two blades under her skirt in the pockets of her shorts. A check at the mirror and a quick brush though the hair and Gerty was out the door.

The lobby was lavish with a wide set of stairs as the centerpiece of the main floor decor. Gerty walked up the stairs a few steps to feel the grandeur of the room. She noticed Jeremy at his station with two other bellhops waiting for their next guest. Gerty strolled slowly over toward Jeremy through the busy lobby. Jeremy noticed Gerty and tried his best to pretend to be oblivious to her presence. Gerty was not thwarted and said,

“Mr. Bellhop might you come here please.”

Jeremy’s heart sank as he hoped he had escaped the disturbing young guest without further incident.

“Come on, I won’t bite. I just want to talk a sec. Promise I’ll be good.”

Jeremy stepped closer but kept a fair distance between him and Gerty.

“I just want to apologize for my behavior. It’s important to know who you are dealing with don’t you think?”

Jeremy swallowed hard and replied,

“Yes Miss.”
Gerty was interrupted in her apology by a uniformed man with a name tag of Dickers,

“Mr. Fowler you need to be at the station and not straying away from your job.”

Gerty turned on the man and asked,

“Am I not a guest “Mr. Dickers?”
“That I do not know Miss.”

Jeremy interjected,

“She is sir.”

“She has no bags that I can tell and is not in need of you services Mr. Fowler.”

Gerty seethed.

“And who the fuck are you to judge what I do or do not need daddio?”

Although not spoken loud the message was shocking and clear.

I’m sorry miss I did not…

Gerty interrupted.

“And you are still standing here why?”

Dickers gave a nod of his own dismissal and backed away two steps before turning back to his station.

So “Mr. Fowler”, when do you get rid of that ass this evening?”

Jeremy braved a small grin and said,

“Dickers leaves at ten and the hops don’t get replaced until midnight Miss.”
“Well, lucky you. How do you travel around this great big city?”

“Us worker bees all ride the bus. You Miss should be traveling by taxi or limo only.”

Gerty stared off for a moment and asked,

“Where can a girl get herself a drink?”
“Let me show you miss.”

Gerty glanced at the clock which read 9:15.
