YOLO in Stuff

A very interesting day, other than what I got up to in my last entry haha.
I hate that i said yes to doing this shift tomorrow, only because I’m near sure the only reason I’m coming in is because they have extra wages and therefore I’ll be doing the work whilst my manager sits on his arse, but that’s nothing unusual ^sigh^, but it’s probably a good thing because of all the spending I did today.
My first lot of spending was actually a really good deal. I managed to score return flights to Sydney for $18. Unfortunately not for early next week (when Ryan wants me there), but for Mardi Gras in March next year. I know it’s forever away and I always say I’m over Mardi Gras, but then Tiger puts on a $20 airfare sale and I’m like, “Well I might as well!” because the dates match up perfectly between when Mardi Gras starts and ends. So yeah $20 there and $20 back flights equals $40, but since Virgin bought out Tiger recently, that means Tiger now accepts Velocity points, and since two of my flights to and from Europe were on Virgin Atlantic, and I figured I might as well get points for those flights since I had an account, I used most of the points to get the airfare down another $22. It probably wasn’t worth it for $22 but heck, I’ve never used Velocity points on anything else before, so the likelihood of them just sitting there is probably high. So yeah, that’s covered. I did exactly the same thing last year and that’s how I ended up at Mardi Gras this year.
Let’s just hope before Mardi Gras rolls around again next time that I somehow, miraculously become rich so that I can stay in a comfy hotel rather than the hostel again :D
I also tried to get Melbourne tickets, but MAN they sold out so fast. There were 300 more tickets available on the Melbourne route, but by the time I looked properly, there was only one $20 flight-day available and it was for the day before I’m meant to be in Sydney. So that wasn’t gonna work out. Dammit. Gotta be SO quick with these sales. I’m just focusing on the fact that I got one good deal out of it at least. The Adelaide and Cairns routes were gone before I’d even looked.
The other expense was only recent, within the last half-hour. Margaret Cho’s new tour tickets went on sale, and I’ve already seen her live three times (Sydney once, Brisbane twice) so I sent out a text first asking Carly if she wanted to go (which she did!) and then to Vish. I knew Vish would be the difficult one, and I was right.
I basically got to the point where I was like, “If you don’t give me a ‘yes or no’ answer by tomorrow afternoon, I’ll assume you’re a no and just buy my tickets.”
It seemed to work. I get a response saying he’d conferred with his boyfriend and his boyfriend said yes.
So I bought 4 tickets. At $82 each. YOuch.
But, at least this time we will all be seated together (rather than separated across the fucking room because Vish couldn’t make up his mind last time - which I reminded him about) and they’ll pay me back the money for their tickets. I told them not to worry about it until September rolls around. It’s just an initial inconvenience for me for the eventual outcome.
They are generally pretty good at paying me back in the past, but of course things can happen in that time, so I am aware I may have to hock off some tickets if it does. It’s happened to me so many times in the past (I went to Aqua, Taylor Swift and Celine Dion, alone), so not really a big deal either. Hopefully all goes according to plan though.
It’s on a damn Thursday night though, starting at 8pm, and my shift ends at 8pm on Thursdays, so I’m gonna have to ask to work an hour or two earlier on that day. Shouldn’t be a big deal, really.
Pam Ann is actually playing the night before Margaret Cho is, at the same venue. But if I go to that, it’ll be another huge amount of dough.
I got paid tonight and most of it went straight on the credit card, which got used again for those tickets haha, so it probably won’t make a huge dent. All these exciting things have to stop occurring at once. At if I do get to Sydney this weekend to see Ryan and the Livid Festival, I can’t imagine that’s gonna be cheap either. Ergh.
“It’s only money”, has been the go-to phrase that I keep telling myself over the years when it starts to pile up. That and the whole YOLO thing.
Do people still say that?
