When I was ten, a boy in my fifth grade class told me that if you were to scratch off a freckle, you would bleed to death. He convinced me that there was absolutely no way to stop the bleeding and all the freckles on someone is what keeps their blood inside their body.
I sat in the back row all day after that picking at a freckle on my arm trying to get it to come off. When it did, I just watched it bleed and I waited. I waited to see if what he said was true. If I would slowly and surely just start to fade away.
I didn’t.
Thinking back to this time, it makes me realize that this sets the tone for my entire life. Past and present. You can dissect it and analyze it however you want.
For now, I’ll tell you to take it for what it is: A story of a sad little girl who thought it would just be better to leave this place.
