rowdy roddy piper’s dead
so is david bowie
our childhood has dried out
the hot winds are blowing
but instead of hiding in nostalgia
like some sulking scolded pup
let’s make a new nostalgia
for the next generation up

now hunter thompson’s dead
so is prince
we’ve been curled up in mourning
we’ve been gnashing ever since
but instead of just refilling
our vintage collectors cups
let’s make a new nostalgia
for the next generation up

that’s not even to mention
mister elliott smith
whether he stabbed himself
or his ex-girlfriend did it
of course we all remember the eighties
all we do anymore is remember the eighties
we’re festooned in pastels
from valhalla to hades
perhaps it’s better to forget a little
gentlemen and ladies

practiced hands make quick work
lord knows there’s work to be done
let’s make up the new worlds
so the new kids can have fun
being young is dinner
you can’t infinitely sup
instead let’s make new nostalgia
for the next generation up
